Western Stoneware Company Egyptian Revival Jardiniere from Monmouth Illinois in what is referred to as a
Burntwood Egyptian design.
This design was known as the "Egyptian Line", circa 1920's. The bowl has a glossy brown glazed interior and what would have been an un-glazed matt tan exterior with dark brown etched design that it appears someone colored at some time. Egyptian Revival motif consisting of large wings, lotus blossoms and geometric designs and "W" repeated four times surrounding the piece. Two areas that look like seams in the motif & I'm not sure why it was done that way. The bowl measures 7" at top rim to rim, 8.5" across the widest part, 6.5" in height and base is 5.25" wide. It has an embossed mark on the base "The Western Stoneware Company Monmouth ILL". There are some small glaze pops and light surface scratches inside from obvious use but are no cracks, chips or repair. Little white specks on the rim that show in pictures are not chips but I think paint specks. There is signs of previous water but a good cleaning should eliminate and I leave tht to buyers.
Please refer to pictures and ask any questions prior to bidding.
The Monmouth Pottery company was founded in 1892 in Monmouth, Illinois.
Until 1906 when it was purchased by Western Stoneware Co., Monmouth was noted for its utilitarian ware. Monmouth became the ‘Art-ware Division’ of Western Stoneware Co. This division was discontinued during the Great Depression of the 1930s
.
This item will ship wrapped and double boxed to protect it from the shipping gorillas across the country.
I have been a seller for quite some time and do my best to describe items as accurately as possible to ensure your satisfaction.
I will post your feedback asap after I receive yours to complete & close out our transaction.
If for some reason you are inclined to leave negative feedback, please email me so that we may resolve the issue prior to that action.
I pack items quite well - as I would want my items packed - to ensure they arrive safely.
I do add a minimal handling fee to actual shipping charges.
